Keeping Score In Cobb Campaigns: State House District 42 (Smyrna, Marietta, Vinings)

Republican House District 42 candidate Diane Jackson has been seen at a few events lately extolling her campaign using the campaign message that she is not a socialist, unlike her self-proclaimed socialist opponent, Gabriel Sanchez.  The GOP candidate, Jackson, seems to clearly understand that this is a David and Goliath race that weighs heavily against her eventual electoral success. Still, she trudges on, pointing out that a Sanchez victory would be the first elected socialist in Cobb County’s history.

Cobb County Board of Elections – Corrupt or Incompetent?

On Saturday, August 3, the Cobb County Board of Elections hosted a retreat at Cobb County’s Safety Village wherein, among other things slated on the agenda, the members were to hear the voter roll challenges brought forth by Eugene Williams. It’s worth noting that Vice Chair Jennifer Mosbacher continues to defile the country in which she lives by refusing to stand or even recite the pledge of allegiance at the beginning of the meetings. As we’ve reported before, Williams has been a pioneer in advocating for the cleanup of voter rolls in Cobb County to ensure that elections are safe and secure from any possible fraud.

Keeping Score in Cobb Campaigns: Show Me the Money

Randy Scamihorn, seeking re-election against Vickie Benson, has pocketed $25,609 with a current balance of $19,662 in his campaign checking book.  Scamihorn (R), a long-time school board member, is often seen as the most vocal of the Republicans on the board and willing to challenge perceived inaccuracies.  Scamihorn’s social media page continuously points to the fact that he is the only candidate in the face that “lives, works and shops” in the county.

Keeping Score in Cobb Campaigns: Cobb’s School Board Races

Brad Wheeler’s Campaign for Cobb School Board announced that Joy Doss will now chair the Leadership Committee for Wheeler’s re-election. Doss, a West Cobb resident and honored graduate of UGA and FSU, is a lawyer and partner at The Doss Firm, LLC.  Well known for her dedication to children and education, Doss was named the 2024 West Cobb Citizen of the Year.

The Cobb Voice Handicapper—The Wheeler Campaign hit a solid triple with this announcement. This re-election campaign seems to have been picking up some valuable members in recent weeks.

Democrat-Led Board Ignores Cobb County Residents’ Pleas to Roll Back Millage Rate Amid Rising Property Taxes

Despite a strong turnout of public commenters demanding a rollback of the millage rate and a reduction in the general fund budget, the Democrat-majority Cobb County Board of Commissioners, led by Chairwoman Lisa Cupid, ignored these concerns and voted to pass a $1.3 billion budget while keeping the millage rate unchanged. Many residents voiced their worries about skyrocketing housing prices, inflation, and increasing healthcare costs. Additionally, questions were raised about the county spending $5 million on consultants’ fees for various questionable projects. “The people of Cobb just can’t afford another tax increase,” one commenter stated.

Cobb’s State House District 42: the Socialist vs Well, Everybody

In Cobb County State House District 42, which covers areas of Marietta, Smyrna and Vinings a race is heating up between a self-proclaimed socialist and a conservative, which could redefine the political makeup of the entire county, and potentially the state of Georgia.

As we head into November, District 42 will see a new State House Representative no matter who wins the bid; but the question is: will it be for the worse or better of the residents of Cobb County?

Accountability at Cobb County’s Superior Court

Has accountability died in America? Are we so far down the corruption hole that even local government officials aren’t willing to push for morality and justice for the sake of being reelected?

That may be the case in Cobb County’s 2024 Superior Court Clerk scandal.

It all started when Connie Taylor became the Superior Court Clerk in 2020, and began collecting passport fees. In the state of Georgia, it is legal for Superior Court Clerk’s to collect passport fees as personal income; in most places it helps supplement a small salary while also keeping the County Court Clerk office running. However, from 2020-2022, Cobb County saw an unusually high number of passport renewals which resulted in Connie Taylor collecting an outstanding $425,000 of additional personal income.

Just another Cobb County Board of Elections Meeting

Just sitting down at the Cobb County Board of Elections meeting, it was evident to me that most of the 20 plus people in attendance were there due to grievances or concerns over the county’s election process. Many held signs with different statements, such as “We don’t trust you” and “Creating Chaos. Coincidence?”.

The majority of attendees were seasoned individuals, with a small smattering of Millennials – but honestly what working adult with a family could afford to be at a 3pm meeting at the Cobb Commissioner’s building to discuss the county’s election process? Even if someone wanted to get involved, how could they with a Monday afternoon start time like that?
