This week saw the beginning of early voting in Cobb County. With it comes a push by the county commission to vote for a transit tax that if approved would impose a 1% sales tax for the next 30 years. Think about that for a moment; your middle schooler would be in their mid 40s at the end of the tax.
There are many issues I see with this proposed transit tax. First, and foremost is calling it an MSPLOST. By definition, a SPLOST is a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax. Many will remember my numerous NO votes for previous SPLOST proposals because I felt that the project list was mostly wants and not needs.

West Cobb School Board Post 1: Veteran and Educator vs. a Ghost Candidate
In the Cobb School Board Post 1, (North Cobb, Allatoona and Kennesaw Mountain high schools), northwest Cobb voters have a choice between retired educator and school board Chairman Randy Scamihorn and a woman who maybe resides here in the area but teaches all the way over in Alabama, hours away. Randy served 26 years in the U.S. Air Force, then became an educator and served admirably in a variety of community roles. His opponent is running for a second time in my post yet has never introduced herself. We know very little about her. Most important, parents hear this: Scamihorn’s reelection this year is crucial to keeping our schools among the best in the nation. Do NOT leave your school board post unmarked in the ballot booth.

In a stark reminder of what is at stake in the upcoming election, Cobb Superior Court Chief Judge Gregory Poole addressed the Metro-Marietta Kiwanis Club on Monday, October 7, explaining why he issued a judicial emergency for the Cobb County’s Superior Court in August.
A judicial emergency is no small thing and usually is reserved for extraordinary occurrences like COVID or hurricanes. But it was not a natural disaster that brought about the most recent emergency orders. Instead, the emergency resulted from management issues attributable to Superior Court Clerk Connie Taylor.
Back Story on Possible Cobb Zoning Changes and Cobb Commission Chair Candidate, Kay Morgan’s Statement Regarding the recent Cobb Voice Exclusive Article: When Politicians Try to Slip One By Us… From Kay Morgan:”Say No to Code Amendment for Chapter 134-1 of the Official Code of Cobb County. The proposed Code Amendment being proposed in regards to Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) is a disaster waiting to happen.”
We were driving through a little west Cobb neighborhood recently, destination Walmart, when a scarred, lumbering old box truck turned in front of us down the narrow residential street. Eventually it stopped at a decrepit home that’s been empty since at least last Spring. But this night the lawn was covered in vehicles. We waited, curious, a few yards behind the stopped truck, hoping the back would roll up so we could see what it was delivering. Yes, you can call me Karen.

By: L. Cramer For the first time since 1995, our area will experience a hurricane. As you know, we usually see tropical storms or bands
