Today, former President Donald Trump announced his running mate at the 2024 Republican National Convention (RNC) to the fanfare of all in attendance. The announcement came earlier than the expected 4:30pm time, which caught many people off guard. On the floor at the RNC, the delegates were still casting their votes for the presidential nominee when the news came out – just in time for the state of Ohio to not only announce that all their delegates voted for Trump, but also spontaneously tell the world that Senator J.D. Vance was the choice for Vice President.
As the afternoon wore on, with nearly all delegates’ casting votes for Trump, the state of Kentucky was under the spotlight to announce who their choice for nominee would be and upon seeing Senator Mitch McConnell on the big screen nearly all of the attendees began to boo. The boos roared so loudly that you could hardly hear McConnell, in what I perceive as defeat by crowd-hatred, as he delivered the delegates for Trump.
As delegates announced their choice for the Republican presidential nominee, many chanted “fight, fight, fight” which were the words Donald Trump shouted after being shot at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania only two days prior to today’s nomination. All eyes have been on Trump, and the victims of this senseless act of violence that claimed the life of one man, Corey Comperatore, and injured two others.
The rest of the afternoon went off without a hitch as the general excitement surrounded Trump and his new VP pick J.D. Vance.
Donald Trump is expected to make a speech on Thursday before the 2024 Republican National Convention closes.
