Opinion: Cobb commission chair and elections board defy court ruling to forward democrat election interference.

In the recent turmoil at Cobb County, the local Board of Elections, under the sway of Democrat strategies, has mired the electoral process in controversy, thwarting the democratic rights of candidates Don Barth and Reggie Copeland. These individuals, driven by a desire to serve their community as District 2 commissioners, were unjustifiably obstructed due to a dubious assertion regarding the district boundaries — a ploy seemingly orchestrated by the Democrat-majority on the Cobb County Commission.

This chaos stemmed from an unprecedented move by the Democrat-led Commission to implement a “home rule” map, diverging from the state-legislated boundaries endorsed by Governor Brian Kemp. This maneuver was notably aimed at maintaining Democrat control, particularly to safeguard Commissioner Jerica Richardson’s position despite legal challenges.

The legal skirmish peaked when Cobb Superior Court Judge Ann Harris declared the Democrat-pushed home rule map unconstitutional. Despite this, the county’s obstinate appeal, awaiting the Supreme Court of Georgia’s judgment, has left the electoral landscape in disarray, disadvantaging potential candidates and, more critically, the electorate.

Compounding the injustice, the Cobb Democratic Committee, aligning with the Board of Elections’ controversial guidance, denied Barth and Copeland’s qualifications based on the contentious home rule map — a clear manipulation aimed at stifling opposition and undermining electoral integrity.

Salleigh Grubbs, chair of the Cobb GOP, rightfully pinpoints the root of the turmoil: the Democrat-dominated County Commission’s underhanded tactics, especially targeting Chairwoman Lisa Cupid for her central role in this electoral sabotage. This scenario transcends mere procedural confusion; it is a deliberate attempt to suppress the constitutional rights of candidates and voters alike, echoing a darker era of voter disenfranchisement.

Reggie Copeland’s sentiment captures the egregiousness of the situation, likening it to the injustices Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. fought against. His experience symbolizes the broader injustice inflicted upon the citizens of Cobb County, whose democratic prerogatives are being trampled underfoot by the Democrat-controlled Board’s self-serving ploys.

This is not mere administrative oversight but a blatant case of election interference and a direct assault on democratic principles. As this debacle unfolds, it’s imperative for the citizens of Cobb County to demand transparency, fairness, and respect for the rule of law — essentials that the current Democrat-led Board of Elections seems to have alarmingly disregarded.
