Georgia Democrats have once again shown how far they’ll go to politicize tragedy, and this time, it’s the heartbreaking case of Adriana Smith. Instead of respecting a grieving family’s private struggle, radical Democrats are using the situation as a prop in their ongoing campaign to attack Republicans and push for unlimited abortion on demand.
Let’s be clear: Adriana Smith, a 30-year-old nurse, was declared brain dead months ago due to undiagnosed blood clots. Doctors are keeping her organs functioning because she is pregnant. Some in her family fear removing life support might violate Georgia’s LIFE Act, which bans most abortions after six weeks. But Georgia’s own Attorney General Chris Carr has made the law crystal clear.
“There is nothing in the LIFE Act that requires medical professionals to keep a woman on life support after brain death,” Carr stated unequivocally. “Removing life support is not an action ‘with the purpose to terminate a pregnancy.’”
Yet despite this clarity, Democrat State Senator Nabilah Islam Parkes continues to fan the flames of confusion and fear. At a press conference last week, Islam Parkes demanded Carr issue an official binding opinion, even though he already addressed the issue publicly. In reality, this is nothing more than a political stunt designed to make headlines.

“These questions are not theoretical,” Islam Parkes claimed, adding that vague laws are causing “families traumatized, providers criminalized, and patients left behind.”
Of course, what she didn’t mention is that no family has been prosecuted under the LIFE Act, and the law itself allows for necessary medical interventions.
Democrats Use Fear Tactics and Misinformation to Target Pro-Life Laws
Senator Islam Parkes wasn’t alone in trying to exploit this tragic situation. Senate Minority Leader Harold Jones openly admitted the real goal: to repeal Georgia’s six-week abortion ban, which was enacted after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022.
“As that fight continues, we must stand with and demand clarification from our governor and attorney general,” Jones said. In other words, it’s not about helping families like Adriana Smith’s, it’s about weaponizing tragedy to roll back pro-life protections.
Islam Parkes even dragged other unrelated cases into the spotlight, citing the unfortunate deaths of Georgians Amber Thurman and Candi Miller, who suffered complications after taking abortion pills. The implication? That Georgia’s abortion law somehow caused these deaths.
But this is disingenuous at best. The LIFE Act does not ban life-saving medical care. What it bans is elective abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected.
Real Accountability Lies with Hospital Mismanagement, Not Pro-Life Laws
Even some in the medical community recognize where the real problem lies. Conservative radio host and Georgia Life Alliance board member Martha Zoller explained it plainly: tragic outcomes like the miscarriage experience of another woman, Natalie Maruscak, stem from hospitals misapplying the law, not the law itself.
“Once you’ve had a miscarriage or you’re in the process of a miscarriage, there is no heartbeat, so there should be no reason for care to be withheld,” Zoller said. “That’s the over-legalization of the medical care business… That has nothing to do with the heartbeat bill.”
It’s unfortunate that rather than working to clarify hospital procedures or improve communication between providers and patients, Democrats like Islam Parkes and Jones are focused solely on using fear and misinformation to advance their pro-abortion agenda.
Senator Ed Setzler, the original author of Georgia’s LIFE Act, called it like it is: “Nabilah Islam Parkes and the Democrats are sickening at the depths they will go to drag Adriana’s hurting family through a sick political debate about expanding abortion.”
He’s absolutely right. It is shameful to exploit a family’s grief to score political points, but that’s exactly what Georgia Democrats are doing.
“The Democrats are making attacks as loudly as they can to try to seize media attention,” Setzler Added.
The Truth Must Prevail: Hold the Democrats Accountable
Let’s not mince words, what we’re witnessing is a coordinated disinformation campaign by the Georgia Democratic Party. They are cynically using Adriana Smith’s family as pawns to manipulate public opinion and undermine Georgia’s pro-life laws.
Rather than offer real solutions or improve hospital protocols, Democrats like Nabilah Islam Parkes, Harold Jones, and their local media allies are spreading fear and falsehoods. They should be called out and held accountable for this blatant exploitation of tragedy.
And make no mistake, Georgia’s LIFE Act is designed to protect unborn children while still allowing for critical medical care. No amount of spin from the Left will change that truth.
