In case you live under a rock, former President Donald Trump was the victim of an assassination attempt at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday. This attempt on his life claimed the life of one rally goer, Corey Comperatore, and injured two others.
Since Saturday, there have been calls from both sides of the aisle to “lower the political temperature” and statements that violence is not the answer. The right is often blamed for violent rhetoric and actions, despite the summer of ANTIFA riots in 2020, Maxine Waters telling constituents to go after conservatives in public, Congressman Steve Scalise (R-LA) being shot at a baseball game by a far left supporter, and the plethora of liberals on social media who have expressed their dissatisfaction that the potential assassin missed.
While these calls for cooler heads have come at a time of extreme political tension, it seems that the commander-in-chief has done anything but “lower the temperature” since Saturday. Allow me to give you some examples:
At the RNC Convention, currently taking place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Biden administration purchased multiple video screen trucks that sit outside the convention with an image of Trump’s campaign sign but the words say “Dictator from Day One”. Never mind the fact that those messages seem like they could incite violence, but the left is supposed to be the “climate” party – and these trucks don’t look electric. But, I digress.
Another instance where the temperature is anything but cooling is Joe Biden’s address to the NAACP this week where he is quoted as saying “…just because of us lowering the temperature… doesn’t mean we should stop telling the truth…” This was said after his false claim that the number one killer of children in the U.S. is firearms… I guess the more than 1 million children aborted in the womb in 2023 don’t count?
President Biden also had a rather hostile interview with NBCs Lester Holt where he made a similar comment that lowering the temperature does not mean he should “stop telling the truth”.
What does that mean? Usually, in my opinion, that kind of statement comes out of the mouth of someone who will not be changing the way they speak about a particular subject – in this case, the subject is Donald Trump.
On Monday, MSNBC pulled Morning Joe from the air in what is rumored as an attempt to keep the hosts and/or their guests from saying anything that would raise the tension in an already heated situation. This went over badly with Joe Scarborough, the host of the show, who came on air the next day threatening MSNBC live that if it happens again he would walk away from the network.
Additionally, the narrative that started to cycle on leftist media Saturday night was the “concern” for retaliatory attacks from the right towards the left. Personally, I think the left leaning MSM are upset that Butler didn’t burn to the ground like so many blue cities after violence or political unrest. In fact, instead of creating and contributing a GoFundMe to bail criminals out of jail (Kamala Harris, I’m looking at you) the people in the “conservative movement” are collecting money for the two men injured and for the family of Corey Comperatore – the hero who died diving in front of his wife and daughter to shield them from the bullets.
So, if we are supposed to lower the political temperature, can we start with Uncle Joe? It’s a fallacy to point fingers at one side of the aisle and say they are inciting violence when you aren’t even looking in the mirror.
After Saturday, we should all look in the mirror and ask ourselves some hard questions about actions and consequences. I want a better America, not a violent one.
